SNAKE CASTLE

This castle is the closest one by us and it was almost the last one that we saw.

Eric and a couple of guys went repelling on one of the castle walls.

KANLIDIVANE

The castle circles half way around this very deep ravine.

It is amazing to think that they did this with a chisel. There is so much detail.

There is lots of rubble that goes on for a long time. Even the drive up the the castle had remains of buildings that once were there. It looked like it was a very big community.

ANAVARSA

The castle is sitting on the very top of the mountain. You can barely see the top of it. It goes all the way across the arch way. The is the biggest and best castle that we have seen.

If you look closely on the upper right hand corner, you can see what once was an amphitheater which use to run across the bottom of the mountain. You can't really tell in the picture but there are rows of benches and then the back wall that closed it off.

We didn't have any back packs when we first got to Turkey, so we borrowed one of our friends kids back pack. Eric is looking manly don't you think?

This is after the long, long, long hike that we took. And I was also 4 months pregnant but I made it! If you notice, in this car the steering wheel is in the wrong place.

Most of the castle is behind me from this photo. We wanted to hike all the way over to the last tower that can be seen in hopes that there would be a easy way down, but . . .

when we got there it was cliffs straight down on both sides.

We didn't want to hike all the way back to where we started, so we started climbing down.

It was a long and tiring climb down.

There was a community just below the castle. There is not much left but mounds of crumbled rock.

There is a man that lives across the street form the castle. He has brought the most preserved pieces down form Anavarsa to make a museum at his house.

The man was digging in his back yard when he came upon a mosaic.

This is a second one that he found. It is deep enough that he will fill it with water and turn in it into a small swimming pool.

The Man's wife at the museum was popping green beans so we sat down to join her. We had very little conversation because we both only new little of each others language.
